Album Details

In the summer of 1976, a long time before the hyper-connected world we live in now, and a million miles from crafted marketing campaigns and feasibility studies, four awkward lads living in the isolation of industrial North West England created the most important record of the punk explosion. Indeed, ever. What they did would touch the rest of the music world in ways that they or anyone else could never have imagined. The newly-formed Buzzcocks found no favor with the London-based music industry, so lead singer Howard Devoto and guitarist Pete Shelley chance upon the previously unheard of idea of ‘f**k it, let’s put a record out ourselves’. The band begged and borrowed to pay for the studio time and for 1000 copies to be pressed. Released on January 29th, 1977 on their own New Hormones label "Spiral Scratch” was the first truly Punk release ushering in a whole new era that was not just attitude, but commitment and execution. This reissue is our attempt at a spot on recreation of the original: Black vinyl, a simple black and white “tabs out” sleeve and a decidedly anachronistic MP3 download card housed inside a plastic protective sleeve.
